Manual Handling
eLearning Module

In the UK approximately one-third of all working days are lost as a result of poor health due to improper manual handling of heavy goods. It can lead to various musculoskeletal disorders and it presents a risk to employees’ health and well-being.

The laws and regulations require employers to manage the risks to their employees regarding manual handling and provide instructions on how to properly handle heavy loads to avoid damages to health. It is part of the training on how to create a safe working environment for all employees.

At Bolt, we have developed a Manual Handling eLearning Module that will enable the user to understand what is needed to manually handle goods with care, best ways of carrying heavy loads and how to move them from one place to the other. It is done to prevent musculoskeletal disorders resulting from poor manual handling practice. This training course is suitable for any user who is required to carry heavy loads in their work.

Learning Outcome

  • To understand learner's responsibilities when manual handling
  • To comprehend the risks that they undertake when manual handling
  • A good foundational understanding of the theory that is involved when moving, lifting, pushing and pulling an object


The eLearning module covers key information surrounding Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (the Regulations), as amended by the Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2002 under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (the HSW Act) as well as Guidance on the Regulations as is provided by HSE's guidance - L23 Manual handling: guidance on the Regulations, (file 313) including the revisions provided in March 2004. Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSWR).

This e-learning course only provides awareness education. Face-to-face training would be needed also to complete the all-round skills and knowledge to be able to carry this forward practically in your organisation.
